Great venue! My granddaughters are having lessons with 4Strokes on Alfreton Rd, Derby and love it! Their swimming skills have come on leaps and bounds but equally importantly, so has their confidence in water. Their lessons are 30 minutes but it's long enough to learn without getting tired or bored. The groups are small, with no more than 4 children in each group. The pool looks clean as do the surrounding areas and changing rooms. Highly recommend!!

I absolutely cannot fault the swimming teachers they are amazing. However they aren’t the reason for my rating. Mothers shouldn’t be made to feel like babies aren’t welcome here. Especially if you struggle for childcare and bring two children at once. The changing mat system makes no sense. Emails sent before lessons clearly state that once you have used a changing mat you turn it over, no one does this. Customers are openly encouraged to touch other peoples belongings as you cannot reserve mats even if they are under the same place your peg with all your belongings on. So why have them if there’s not enough for everyone using the changing room at the same time? Rude mothers steal mats with other peoples belongings on and leave them wet. This mother whose behaviour was unacceptable was suppported and I was lectured instead. It was apparently fine for her to move my car seat and baby blanket and babies hat, also things belonging to my eldest son. Why couldn’t she use the disabled toilet? I’ve had to when not enough mate before. She has been treated like that’s acceptable. In what other world can you move people belongings without their consent? I put a car seat up on the bench as it belongs to my youngest child and my eldest has lessons AND it’s a tripping hazard CLEARLY and have been told by receptionist with pink hair to leave it on the floor instead because “it might spread germs from my car to the mat” yet no problem when mats are left wet, not turned over and re-used several times because apparently children have no germs, JUST my car seat. There should just be enough mats for everyone and if there’s not they should stop over-booking certain times of day so it’s physically impossible to lay your child on a mat and have to lay them on bare metal bars or the floor. When I asked what to do with my car seat if I’m not allowed to leave it on the bench I got told to leave it on the floor. That’s fine! And if anyone trips over it, breaks their ankle or neck etc the swimming pool can just get sued, absolutely no skin off my nose if they can’t think of a better system than this awful free for all one. Just install better benches that aren’t designed for a school changing room. Then you wouldn’t need mats. No other swimming bath has bare hard metal benches then makes people share or possibly not even get a changing mat to change a child on so they aren’t lay on bare hard metal. The way I’ve been made to feel by other mothers and the reception staff over the last month is unwelcome, a nuisance for having more than one child, lectured and unsupported. If I could move my child’s teacher to another facility I would.

Fantastic private swim lessons for my 3-year-old daughter. Her coach, Robyn, is so patient, encouraging and kind – she’s made a huge difference to my daughter’s confidence and really knows how to get the best out of little ones and makes the lessons both fun and productive - a vast improvement compared to our previous group lessons at another provider. The facilities are excellent – clean, well kept, and the changing rooms are perfectly adequate (not comparable to a large leisure centre, but absolutely fine), and there's also free parking and a little tuck shop too for post swimming snacks. 4Strokes is a brilliant place to learn vital swimming skills – I couldn’t recommend more!

Fantastic facility. I've been here today to watch my 5 year old grand daughter learning to swim. The pool is about 25 metres in length and split into four lanes. In each lane there are a small number of different levels of young swimmers, with one instructor who is in the water with them all of the time. The progress these youngsters make in a short time is amazing and this is all due to the outstanding instruction given by the friendly, qualified staff. Awards and badges are given for improving abilities, which in turn gives the kids lots of incentive. There is a small cafe, small changing room, free carparking outside and the whole place is extremely clean and tidy. Keep up the great work guys these kids need you

Great place to learn to swim. My boy is progressing well here. Friendly teachers and staff. Ample parking and easy to get to.

Joined here a couple of months ago and first impressions weren’t too bad. Please note for your lessons you need a swimming hat and goggles, the children aren’t allowed to swim without them but they don’t bother sharing that information with you beforehand. Facilities aren’t great, three showers available in the ladies, it just isn’t enough for the number of children finishing the lessons at the same time, resulting in long queues. Travelled some distance and paid a premium for these lessons after reading the reviews but after four different teachers in four weeks I decided it wasn’t worth the time or money. If you ask any questions at reception, they advise you to just email but then whoever responds to them tells lies or ignores you. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return. Could be great with improved facilities and some continuity in a teacher for the children.

Great swimming lessons, purpose built facility that really caters to its exclusive function of lessons. To be honest though, what really sets it apart is my son’s swimming teacher Ashley. He’s tried a few lessons with some of the others when she’s been off for the odd day over the last couple of years, and they are all great at what they do, but she’s not only helped him come on it leaps and bounds with his swimming (I take him one day a week myself and it’s not as easy as she makes it look!), but she always does it with a smile… Not a forced one either, they genuinely smile at each other like they are having a nice time. She also stands out as having a very patient, calm attitude, and just from her gestures when she’s doing things like helping the kids with things like their googles or getting their stroke right, she comes across as a gentle, kind and motherly influence which is lovely to see. My son has been off for 6 weeks with a broken arm and recently started back, was apprehensive at first but very quickly felt at ease again - went from crying about going to saying he loved it again within one lesson. Thanks for all you’ve done, we hope to continue here with you as long as we can :).
